PBS rejection: R 018 the claim reference number provided is invalid

Issue

Occasionally, you may see PBS rejections with the error code "R 018 the claim reference number provided is invalid" for all newly dispensed scripts.

Cause

One scenario where this PBS rejection may occur is when the number of transactions within the current claim period exceeds 10,000 transactions. In such instances, it's necessary to close the current claim and reclaim the rejected scripts into a new claim period.

The recommended claiming capacity for a claim period is 8000 transactions.

Resolution

1. Close the current claim.
2. Once the new claim period has been started, reclaim all rejected scripts from the previous period by using the Reclaim button.
3. All the reclaimed scripts should be accepted by PBS.
