How to dispense a compassionate supply script

Overview

Compassionate supply stock is provided to pharmacies by the supplier free of charge. Dispensing this supply using a regular Fred Dispense drug card can skew the gross profit, sometimes causing it to become negative in the Script Analysis Report. To avoid this inaccuracy, it is recommended to create a custom drug card specifically for compassionate supply items, ensuring they do not impact the Script Analysis Report.

Steps

1. Follow the steps outlined in Create an Own Brand Drug in Fred Dispense Plus to create your own brand drug.
2. When naming the item, include "Compassionate Supply" in the name to differentiate it from other drugs. Set both the wholesale and private prices to $0.00 to reflect that it is provided free of charge.
   
3. When dispensing a compassionate supply script, select the own brand drug you created. This ensures that it does not affect the Script Analysis Report and prevents any discrepancies in gross profit calculations.
   
4. If you don't want the script to be sent to the till, you can set up a script rule processing rule in Fred Office to automatically discard a $0 script when it gets sent to the till and optionally choose whether it deducts stock or not. Please refer to the How to set up Script Rules guide. Otherwise, the compassionate supply script can be manually removed from the till software.
