Fred Dispense Plus
Overview
Continued Dispensing (CD) allows pharmacists to supply eligible medicines to patients without a prescription, provided the pharmacist is satisfied the patient is stable on the medication and meets the eligibility requirements.
It is the responsibility of the pharmacy in each State and Territory to ensure that the necessary legislation is in place before undertaking a Continued Supply dispensing.
Steps
Before you start: The issuing pharmacist must have his/her AHPRA number stored to ensure a CD supply is completed and successfully claimed. Contact Fred Support if Fred Dispense Plus returns an error when dispensing. Visit the AHPRA Register of Practitioners to check your AHPRA number.
-
Select Continued Dispensing.
When Continued Dispensing is selected, the patient banner changes from blue to grey.
Mode Patient banner Continued Dispensing The Date field defaults to today's date and fields that are not required are disabled.
-
Enter the Patient's name and the script details.
Only drugs available under Continued Dispensing regulation are displayed for selection.
- When dispensing eligible authority items, use 123 as the authority number and enter P9999Rx as the streamlined/phone approval code.
-
Complete the dispensing as per normal.
When dispensing for Immediate Supply, the next valid dispensing date displays on the Immediate Supply dialog prompt.
By default, the focus is placed on Yes.

Other information related to Continued Dispensing
- Fred Dispense Plus automatically prints the required documents: a repeat form and three copies of the Consumer Declaration and Prescriber Notification. One copy of the Declaration is kept by the pharmacy, another is given to the customer, and the third copy is for the prescriber.
- Closing the Gap (CTG) does not apply to Continued Dispensing.
- Owing does not apply to Continued Dispensing, but a Continued Dispensing supply can be edited and set to Owing, if it is rejected by Medicare.
- The maximum PBS quantity cannot be exceeded and the pharmacist cannot use an Authority number to override the maximum PBS quantity.
- Question mark dispensing is not available in Prescriber bag or Continued dispensing modes. If Prescriber bag or Continued dispensing mode is enabled, searching for a drug using the question mark prefix returns no result.
