Fred Dispense Plus
Drugs are added monthly into the Fred Drug Data if they are requested to be listed by PBS and in some cases upon special request from users and manufacturers.
If a drug does not appear in the dispense drug search or question mark search, it may indicate a new drug on the market which may be added at the start of the next month via the Drug Update OR an existing non-PBS drug which has not yet been requested to be added.
Example: a pharmacist needs to dispense a new non-PBS drug for patient presenting with a script.
Option A: Use Own Brand Drugs to add any drug for non-PBS dispensing
Find out how to create an own brand drug in Fred Dispense Plus online help.
Option B: Use Blank dispensing
- In the Drug Search field, type in blank and choose a suitable option.
The BLANK DD MISC option should only be used for Schedule 8 drugs. Any scripts dispensed with BLANK DD will be included in Controlled Drug reports.
- Add a suitable description to appear on the label/repeat and input the wholesale cost amount.
Using blank dispensing will NOT deduct product from stock on hand.
Option C: Question mark dispensing
Question mark dispensing (input a question mark <?> followed by the drug name in drug search field) allows dispense to search products in the backoffice database instead of the Drug Database. This may be useful when you need to label OTC products or to dispense a drug not yet added into the Drug Data.
Products must first exist in the store's backoffice inventory. Stores can either add the product at the store level themselves or request their head office to add the item.
Once the item is added, it can be dispensed via question mark dispensing.
Using Question mark dispensing will allow stock on hand to be deducted correctly.
Request drugs to be added into the Drug Data
If you would like to request a non-PBS drug to be added into the Drug Database, you can do so by providing as much product detail (name, strength, form, pack quantity etc.) as you can which will be forwarded to the Drug Management team for review. If the product is able to be added, it will be added in a future Drug Update.
