Dispense an Extemporaneous Prescription

Fred Dispense Plus

Overview

An extemporaneously prepared medicine (Extemp) is prepared by the pharmacist for immediate use.

There are two ways to dispense an extemporaneous prescription in Fred Dispense Plus. The method used depends on whether the prescription is a PBS or a private script. This guide shows how to dispense it using each method.

PBS extemporaneous script

1. From the Main screen, scan the eRx barcode or select the patient you want to dispense for.
2. Enter the script details.
3. In the Drug selection field, type "EXTEMP".
   The Extemporaneous Drug screen will pop up.
   
4. Select the appropriate Base Drug and enter required details.
5. Complete the dispensing as per normal.

Private extemporaneous script

1. From the Main screen, scan the eRx barcode or select the patient you want to dispense for.
2. Enter the script details.
3. In the Drug selection field, type "BLANK" and select the appropriate Blank line.
   
4. At the Blank Item Information prompt, type in item description and wholesale cost of the product. 
   
5. Complete the dispensing as per normal.
